DWDA Board Election
The process in which board members are elected is stated through the DWDA bylaws and will be followed as they were written. The election is done by a caucus vote. There will be two caucus meetings. One for business owners of Downtown Waycross and the other for property owners of Downtown Waycross. Each caucus will discuss their nominations and will then have a vote.
Article II Section 1 – Eligible Voters
The eligible voter for a business owner must be either the owner or the official representative of the owner. In the case where a person is an owner of two or more businesses in the district, that owner will be given one vote for each business license and/or business physical location in the district. For purposes of this Article II, Section 1, the term “business” shall include any business entity or sole proprietorship, including not-for-profit organizations which otherwise satisfy the qualifications set forth herein. Also, if the equity owner(s) of a business is not present and is not regularly present at a business location in the district, the highest-ranking officer who is regularly
present at the business location shall be eligible to vote as a business owner. With respect to the vote of owners of real property in the District, if an owner of real property in the District owns two (2) or more parcels of land in the district, the owner will be given an individual ballot for each parcel of real property, except that contiguous parcels of real property shall be treated as one parcel for purposes of determining the number of votes for which a real property owner is eligible.
Article II Section 2 - Proxies
Proxies will be allowed in the elections, subject to reasonable verification criteria established by the Board at least thirty (30) days before the election. If the Board fails to establish such criteria at least thirty (30) days before the election, then proxies will not be permitted.
